Colorado leaving Big XII; OSU to the North?

Posted on Updated on

The Pac 1o Conference is close to be becoming the Pac 12 and according to someone close to the situation says Colorado and Utah will be the 11th and 12th school to fulfill the conference.

Utah is close to 100% and Colorado is near as a great possibility according to the source.

Naturally, that leaves a void in the Big 12 if Colorado jumps ship and I believe it’s a good move for the Buffs, but who fills the spot in the Big 12?

Most popular choices would be from the state of Texas with Houston and TCU. A popular choice from the North would be Colorado State. Tulsa and New Mexico make interesting cases, but TCU makes the most sense to me. TCU would indeed some facility upgrades to be on par.

If a Texas team or south team were to be brought in, could that possibly move Oklahoma State to the North division? Obviously, you can not have seven teams in the South and five in the North. Stillwater is the team closer to the current North teams geography wise.

If you’re an Oklahoma State fan would this be a good move? You leave the dreaded and the toughest division in college football. The South, arguably, is currently the better division in basketball, but not much change despite having to play Kansas one more time in the regular season.

The Pac 10 may make things very interesting here soon.

JC – tell me what happens if Colorado leaves? We know Pac 10 is going to be the Pac 12. Colorado has a chance of leaving and that leaves a void. Colorado State comes into the Big XII and saves a lot of confusion, but what is more sexy Rams, Horned Frogs, or Cougars?

Obviously TCU is the sexy pick. However, I could even see that happening without realignment. Just because it may not make sense geographical division wise doesn’t mean it won’t happen that way. TCU would jump at the chance to go to the Big 12. IF they are told they have to be in the North to do it, I say they would still do it. They could be a major force in the North.

Valid point. If I was TCU, I would agree to that scenario. If TCU was to join that would make Dallas an even more competitive place for recruiting. Its all very interesting.

I honestly would hate to see Houston. Houston is a hotbed of recruiting for OSU. If recruits could get Big 12 exposure and stay at home, that would hurt OSU.
